SBTs*1 will be formulated by fiscal 2020 to present a more specific roadmap for the creation of a low-carbon society. At the same time, we will aim to acquire certification from SBTi*2.
We will continue the initiatives of the 8th Environmental Plan focusing on "reducing CO2 emissions from product usage by improving the energy-saving performance of products" and "visualizing and expanding the contribution to reducing CO2 emissions during product usage."
Target: Reducing CO2 emissions from product usage by an average of 35% from fiscal 2001. Maintaining the 70 million ton level of contribution to reducing CO2 from product usage.
The target final disposal rates of Mitsubishi Electric and its affiliates in Japan have been achieved also in the past, and those levels will continue to be maintained. Overseas affiliates will aim to improve their overall performance in continuation from the 8th Environmental Plan, by promoting thorough waste separation, recycling, and greater efficiency of waste collection and transport.
Target: Achieving final disposal rates of less than 0.1% in Japan and less than 0.5% overseas
We will place greater emphasis on the creation of a recycling-based society as an important issue, and engage in "reducing resource inputs for products" and "expanding resource recycling businesses."
Target: Reducing resource inputs by an average 40% compared to fiscal 2001
The Mitsubishi Electric Group has a range of resource recycling businesses, including the recycling of plastics used in home appliances, elevator renewals, the rewinding of generator coils, and the replacement of multi-unit air-conditioning systems for buildings. We will expand these operations in continuation from the 8th Environmental Plan.
Considering the increasing importance of water resources worldwide, we set new targets for water usage in the 9th Environmental Plan. Based on these targets, we will engage in thorough management of water usage/drainage volumes and reduce water usage by saving and reusing water in 80 business sites in Japan and overseas.
Target: Reducing water usage per unit of sales by 1% per annum compared to fiscal 2011
We will continue to hold Mitsubishi Electric Outdoor Classrooms and the Satoyama Woodland Preservation Project.
Target: Increasing the number of participants in Mitsubishi Electric Outdoor Classrooms and the Satoyama Woodland Preservation Project by 12,000 from March 2018 and bringing the cumulative total to more than 51,000
We will launch full-scale biodiversity protection activities at all manufacturing bases in Japan based on our internal guideline set in line with the Aichi Targets* and the results of living creature studies that we have carried out up to fiscal 2018. Other initiatives will also be implemented at each business site, including the preservation of local species, control of non-native species, and maintenance of green spaces in consideration of the surrounding ecosystem.
To ensure compliance with RoHS2 chemical substance regulations in Europe, we will work to establish alternative technologies.
At all overseas manufacturing bases, we will strengthen the monitoring of compliance and develop technologies in response to various laws and regulations. We will also reduce environmental risks at factories and improve the level of our environmental initiatives
